Sony gives PS4 controller two extra buttons and an OLED screen with accessory
Sony has announced the Dualshock 4 Back Button Attachment, an accessory for the Dualshock 4 controllers. The accessory adds two extra buttons that can be mapped by the user, the OLED screen shows the user’s choice.
The Back Button Attachment allows players to program up to sixteen different actions on the two buttons. Sony mentions the triangle, circle, R1 and R2 buttons as an example. So it doesn’t seem to be macro buttons on gaming keyboards, for example, where a series of buttons can be programmed in one button. The two extra buttons only replace the existing buttons on the controller.
According to Sony, the accessory allows players to do more with their hands to reduce response times. As a result, players should be able to play more flexibly in competitive games.
The OLED screen is placed at the bottom of the controller, allowing users to see which actions have been programmed under the buttons. This screen is also a button; allows the user to set the two new rear buttons. The accessory has support for up to three profiles in which the associated actions can be saved. Thus, the operation of the buttons can be quickly adjusted.
The Back Button Attachment also acts as a pass-through for the 3.5mm jack; so users can still connect headphones to the controller. According to Sony, the Attachment works with all PS4 and PS4 VR games and can be purchased from February 14 for 30 euros.
