Microsoft will replace Edge with Chromium version on January 15 via Windows Update
Microsoft has given more details about the release of its Chromium-based Edge browser on January 15. Users of Windows 10 April 2018 Update or later versions will get it automatically through Windows Update.
The Chromium-based Edge browser then replaces the standard Edge version of Windows 10, writes Windows Latest. Enterprise users who do not want to receive the new variant, for example due to compatibility issues, can use a Blocker Toolkit to block the automatic update. The toolkit does not prevent users from manually installing the Chromium version of Edge.
Microsoft released Edge’s release candidate on Chromium in early November and announced general availability on January 15, 2020. The company is now fixing the latest bugs and calling on developers to create extensions for the browser, which will be available through the Microsoft Edge Addons store. Developers who have EdgeHTML-based extensions for the old Edge can have them automatically migrated by Microsoft.
