The Mozilla Foundation has released the first beta release of Thunderbird version 9.0. Mozilla Thunderbird is an open source client for mail and newsgroups, with features such as support for different mail and news accounts, a junk mail filter, spell checker and a customizable appearance. Version 9 includes the ability to sign up to provide performance information to Mozilla so that the program can be made even better, and of course a lot of bug fixes have been made. The release notes for this version can be found below.

The latest version of Thunderbird Beta has the following changes:

Added an opt-in system for users to send performance data back to Mozilla to improve future versions of Thunderbird
Better keyboard handling for attachments
Windows users can hide the menu bar (and show it with the “alt” key)
Several user interface fixes and improvements
and numerous other platform fixes
