Twitter is testing a feature that limits who users can mention
Twitter is working on a feature that will allow users to specify who they can and can’t mention. For example, users can choose that only users they follow can name them. Twitter probably wants to prevent intimidation and bullying.
data miner Jane Manchun Wong liked the feature which should appear within the settings menu and let users control who they can and cannot name. Mentionen is @username in a tweet, of which the mentioned will also get a notification. With the new feature, users can choose to have anyone mention them, no one, or just people the user follows.
The Verge notes Twitter’s privacy designer Dominic Camozzi confirmed the feature’s arrival in a tweet and asked users for feedback. Camozzi has since deleted the tweet. It is not clear when the feature should appear.
Earlier this year, Twitter also introduced an unmention feature. This feature allows users to ‘remove’ themselves from a conversation on the platform. The company saw that as a way to create a little more peace of mind for users.
