HP to integrate webOS into Windows

HP has given more clarity about its plans to bring webOS to the PC. The company will integrate parts of the mobile operating system into Windows and therefore not use it as a separate OS.

HP CEO Phil McKinney said in an interview with the Seattle Times: know that webOS will not run on Windows via virtualization, but did not disclose much about how his company will process parts of the mobile operating system in Windows. In any case, HP wants to achieve that the PC will work better with the tablets and smartphones that run on webOS. HP previously announced that webOS will also be used on the PC, in addition to mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones. This led to rumors that the company wanted to get rid of Windows or that it would put webOS on PCs via dualboot.

However, it is possible to run webOS on computers without using Windows. An image of the emulator normally used by developers to test applications was found to run without modifications on an x86-based laptop.

HP recently announced its first webOS products after it acquired Palm’s mobile OS. The company releases two smartphones: the Veer, with a 2.6″ screen, and the Pre 3, which has a 3.6″ screen and a 1.4GHz processor. HP’s tablet, the TouchPad, has a screen diagonal of 9.7″ and a dual-core Snapdragon processor with a clock speed of 1GHz.
