The Canary trial version of Chrome includes a feature to defer downloads. For example, users can only allow a download to take place when there is a Wi-Fi connection. The download can also be put on a timer.

The defer download feature is present in Chrome 86 Canary, according to Techdowns, but must first be manually activated by the flag Enable download later. When initiating a download, users will then see a pop-up with the choice to postpone the download. In the current trial version there is an option to start the download immediately, to wait for a Wi-Fi connection or to choose a date and time.

For now, the functionality is only in the early test version of Chrome for Android. It is not yet known when the option will come to the beta version or the final version of the browser. The current stable release is Chrome 84. A new version number of the browser is released approximately every six weeks.
