BMW will launch Android Auto Wireless support in mid-2020
From July next year, BMW will add Android Auto support to its vehicles with BMW Operating System 7.0. There is support for the wireless variant, where an Android smartphone with WiFi is linked to Android Auto.
Support for Android Auto is coming to new models and also to existing BMWs that already have the respective operating system. BMW Operating System 7.0 was announced last April and released on models such as the X5 and in the 3 Series.
BMW will support the wireless version of Android Auto. This allows a smartphone to be linked to the car’s infotainment system via a WiFi connection. That does not work with all smartphones, BMW refers to a support page that states that Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy and Note devices from recent years are supported.
According to BMW, Android Auto will be integrated into the ‘fully digital cockpit’ of its cars. Information can be displayed on the central screen as well as on the instrument panel and in the head-up display.
Android Auto brings, among other things, the ability to use Google Assistant to plan routes and perform other hands-free actions. BMW will demonstrate the integration at CES in January and release it in July 2020 for all vehicles with BMW OS 7.0.
