QNAP has released the first stable release of version 4.0 of the firmware for the NAS devices equipped with ARM processor. In version 4.0, the user interface has been improved and multiple windows can now be opened at the same time. Various components, such as File, Photo and Music Station, have also been given a new look and have more extensive and improved functionality. Furthermore, there is now an app center that already contains more than 90 apps, QNAP has added its own cloud service and there is support for AirPlay. The most important improvements are listed below.

Important QTS 4.0 features:

• Smart desktop: multiple windows, quick launch menu, smart dashboard, icon dragging, multiple desktops, personal desktop wallpapers, and a smart taskbar with preferences, online resources, quick search, event reporting, remote devices, and background tasks;
• File Station: Can handle photo thumbnails, set photos with properties and privileges, move files from local computers to File Station by dragging. The recycle bin is categorized by shared folders;
• Photo Station: Includes a new user interface, custom slideshow by dragging photos, automatically sorts photos by timeline, and photos can also be tagged and tagged. Smart Import can also be used to back up photos and videos;
• Music Station: has a new user interface, enables music streaming, and has thousands of built-in Internet radio stations;
• Media Library: Supports file transcoding;
• HappyGet II: an application provided by third parties that allows backing up YouTube videos, Facebook photos and Vimeo, Niconico videos;
• Surveillance Station Pro: has a new user interface, supports multiple browsers on PC with IE, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, and supports hundreds of new IP camera models;
• App Center: Contains more than 90 install-on-demand apps for a wider variety of applications on the Turbo NAS;
• myQNAPcloud.com: A new QNAP membership portal for managing registered Turbo NAS devices, using published NAS services, and quickly connecting to start.qnap.com for system setup online without the need for a CD drive rom must be used.
• Qsync: Creates a special “Qsync” folder for users to simply drop their file into, and automatically syncs the files across all devices connected to the Turbo NAS. It is possible to sync files and group file sharing in multiple ways;
• QAirplay: Allows you to browse videos, music, and photos stored on the Turbo NAS and play them on TV via Apple TV.
