Microsoft will automatically upgrade systems that are still on W10 October 2018
Microsoft has started phased automatic updating of consumer systems still running Windows 10 October 2018 Update. Support for this version will end on May 12, 2020.
Microsoft will start the automatic update several months before Windows 10 October 2018 Update, or version 1809, reaches its end-of-service status. The company says it is doing this in order to have enough time for a smooth update procedure.
It concerns the Home and Pro variants of Windows 10 1809. They will no longer receive updates from May 12, 2020 and security problems will no longer be resolved from that date, with a few exceptions. Support for the Enterprise and Education variants will not end until May 11, 2021.
The most recent version of Windows 10 is version 1909, or the November 2019 Update. Users who are still running an earlier version can install it by updating manually via Windows Update. At the beginning of this year, Microsoft released version 1903, or the Windows 10 May 2019 Update.
