Smartphone maker Vivo renames Android skin FunTouch OS to JoviOS
Smartphone maker Vivo renames its Android skin FunTouch OS to JoviOS, according to a message from the company on Weibo. The skin with the new name will make its first appearance on the Chinese company’s X30 smartphones next month.
The smartphone manufacturer posted a sketch of the JoviOS logo design on its Weibo page. It is still unknown what will change the skin compared to the current FunTouch OS. Vivo has been using that name for its Android skin for five years now.
The Chinese company will use the name with the presentation of its X30 smartphones next month, claims GSMArena. Its top model, the X30 Pro 5G, is one of the few smartphones to date that has a periscopic camera with a telephoto lens. Until now, only the Huawei P30 Pro and Oppo Reno 10X Zoom came out with such a camera. Huawei did not put the periscopic camera on the newer Mate 30 Pro and Oppo already made a successor for its Reno and Reno Z, but not yet for the 10X Zoom version.
Vivo has not yet commented on the change of its Android skin. Some other manufacturers also sometimes change names for their Android interface. For example, Samsung went from TouchWiz via Samsung Experience to One UI. Other manufacturers stick to the name of their interface for a long time. For example, Xiaomi has been using Miui since its inception and Huawei sticks to Emui.
