Valve sells last Steam Controllers for 5.50 euros

Valve has stopped production of the Steam Controller. The company sells the last copies via Steam, for 5.50 euros instead of the regular price of 55 euros. The offer ends on December 3.

The Steam Controller product page states that “only a few are available.” Inquiries from The Verge at Valve learn that it really concerns the very last stock of the controller and that production has been discontinued. Thanks to the 90 percent discount, the product seems to be selling quickly: Valve reports that it is delivering the controller with a delay.

Valve introduced the Steam Controller in 2013, as part of its drive to expand the Steam platform to include SteamOS and Steam Machine consoles. The controller distinguished itself with two trackpads in the places where most other controllers have the thumbsticks and a d-pad. The trackpads were clickable and provided haptic feedback. The company has used the knowledge gained in developing the controllers for its Valve Index headset for VR, among other things.

The Steam Controller was praised for its versatility, among other things. Among other things, the controller was adaptable for different games and was also configured for use by people with disabilities. At the same time, the accessory was considered “unusable” and never seems to have become as successful as Valve had hoped.
