According to TechCrunch would Nokia simultaneously held talks with Microsoft, RIM and Google about using their mobile operating systems in Nokia smartphones. It is unclear at what stage the talks with RIM were, but the Canadian smartphone maker ultimately did not want to enter into a collaboration with Nokia. A collaboration with Google also failed after it turned out that Nokia wanted to replace Google services such as Maps, contacts, the Android Market and calendar with its own Ovi services. The internet giant did not agree to this, leaving Microsoft’s Windows Phone as the only alternative. There are still the smartphone operating systems iOS and webOS, but it is unlikely that Nokia will be able to use them through a licensing model.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt said know regret that Nokia has not opted for Android. Although the Finnish company has teamed up with Microsoft, Schmidt said the possibility of entering into a partnership remains. Nokia will probably have to use Google’s services in its smartphones.
