MediaTek has announced that it will officially unveil its first chip on November 26 that can be used to set up 5G connections. The chip manufacturer has also already shown images of its first soc with a built-in 5G modem.

The unveiling will come at the MediaTek Summit, a private event that the company organizes, GSM Arena discovered. During the event, MediaTek will provide more information about the MT6885Z chip, which should receive a 5G modem, and should be available in smartphones from next year.

It is no surprise that MediaTek comes with a 5g chip. Earlier this year, the company already released details about its 5G plans, stating that the first smartphones with the chip should appear in the first quarter of next year. However, the invitation that MediaTek has sent also shows that the company is committed to connections in the car. However, details on this are still lacking.

The maximum 5G speeds of the new chip are 4.7Gbit/s down and 2.5Gbit/s up. MediaTek has the soc made on a 7nm FinFet process, and has it equipped with ARM Cortex A77 cores and a Mali G77 gpu. In addition, the soc can handle images from 80-megapixel cameras.

There are also rumors that MediaTek is working on another 5G soc, which is intended for the midrange market, based on Cortex A76 cores. However, it would not go into mass production until the second quarter of next year, so it will take some time before it will be built into smartphones.
