Netflix ends support for 2010 and 2011 Samsung TVs in the US – update
Samsung has warned television owners of a 2010 and 2011 model in the US and Canada that they will soon no longer be able to use the Netflix application. The support is stopped. That includes certain Roku media players and Vizio televisions.
Users who lose Netflix support will see a notification on the screen, Samsung warns. It states that due to technical limitations, Netflix will soon no longer be available. That applies to Samsung televisions that were released in 2010 and 2011; Netflix will continue to support newer models, although it seems likely that more models will be phased out in due course.
Although there is no further explanation, it probably has to do with the fact that Netflix no longer considers it profitable to support the models due to the small number of users. The changes will take effect on 1 December: from then on, the Netflix application on the aforementioned Samsung televisions will no longer function.
Not only will Netflix stop supporting older Samsung televisions, but Vizio-branded televisions four years or older will also be affected. Furthermore, as of December, the application will no longer work on a number of Roku media players.
