Total War series developer to make Warhammer games

The Creative Assembly, the studio that makes the Total War rts games, will make games for publisher Sega that take place in the Warhammer universe. The first game will not be released until after 2013. It is not known what kind of game the English studio will make.

Developer The Creative Assembly makes familiar that it has signed a deal with publisher Sega with Games Workshop, the company that owns the rights to the Warhammer franchise, best known for the table top game under the same name. The studio is not releasing much about the deal. It concerns a contract for various games, but it is not known what kind of games the studio wants to make. The first game that The Creative Assembly will deliver will not appear on the market until after 2013. The studio will set up a new team to work on the Warhammer games.

The English studio, which has been in existence for 25 years, has a team working on rts Total War: Rome II. In addition, it has a team that makes mobile games and a team that is working on a game based on the Alien movies. The new Total War game is expected in late 2013. It is unknown when the Alien game will be available for purchase. The game would be made for the upcoming consoles from Microsoft and Sony, although the studio itself has never confirmed that.

With the deal between Sega, The Creative Assembly and Games Workshop, two publishers are marketing games under the Warhammer name. THQ is allowed to make Games Workshop games that fall within the Warhammer 40,000 franchise, a fork of the Warhammer tabletop games. The license that Sega and The Creative Assembly now hold was previously owned by Electronic Arts, who used the name for Warhammer Online.
