Developer shows off Windows 11 on a Lumia 950 XL phone
A developer has shown a video of the Lumia 950 XL with Windows 11, Microsoft’s operating system that has been available for download as an Insider build since this week. The phone can also make calls, the developer reports.
The short video shows the Windows 11 interface on the phone, including the new Start menu and the new interface for File Explorer. The developer, the Frenchman Gustave Monce, says that calling is still possible. He does this by putting the appropriate code from Windows Phone into Windows 11.
It is not the first time that Monce has put an unsupported Windows version on the smartphone. He already did that with Windows 10X and Surface Hub OS. The Lumia 950 XL came out in 2015 with Windows 10 Mobile, the latest version of Microsoft’s mobile operating system. The following year, Microsoft stopped developing the system. Microsoft’s most recent smartphone, the Surface Duo, runs on Android.
