The ten millionth copy of the PlayStation 5 was sold on July 18, Sony announced. This means that the PlayStation 5 remains the fastest-selling Sony console to date, although the sales number is falling somewhat.

“While the PlayStation 5 has reached more households faster than any Sony console, we still have a lot of work ahead of us as demand for the PlayStation 5 continues to outstrip supply,” said Sony Interactive Entertainments CEO Jim Ryan. Improving inventory therefore remains a ‘top priority’ for the company.

At the end of April, Sony announced that it had sold 7.8 million PlayStation 5 consoles. This covered the period up to and including 31 March. Between April 1 and July 18, Sony sold 2.2 million PlayStation 5 consoles, making that the lowest number to date. The number of deliveries has been decreasing since its release in November; then 4.5 million consoles were delivered, in the following quarter it was 3.3 million consoles.

It is not yet known how many consoles were sold in the second quarter. That number will most likely be less than the 2.2 million consoles sold between April 1 and July 18, as sales between July 1 and July 18 are not included in the sales figures for the second quarter.

Sony also announces sales figures for certain SIE games. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales has sold over 6.5 million copies and MLB The Show 21 has sold 2 million copies. These are not PS5 exclusives. Returnal and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart are PS5 exclusives; of those games have sold 560,000 and 1.1 million copies respectively.
