Yubico releases a YubiKey with a fingerprint scanner on it. Users of the YubiKey Bio can only log in somewhere via the physical button on the key after they first scan their finger. The key works with usb-a and supports FIDO2 and WebAuthn.

Yubico presented the new key during Microsoft Ignite. The YubiKey Bio works with Windows 10 and Azure Active Directory, among other things, the company says. The makers do not give many technical details about the YubiKey Bio. Product images show how the key contains a fingerprint scanner instead of the standard button in the middle. Yubico says the biometric data is stored in the secure part of the key.

The key, like most other YubiKeys, would have support for web standards FIDO2 and WebAuthn. It is not known whether there is also NFC in the key. In any case, the Bio only has a standard USB connection, and no USB-C or Lightning connection for use with smartphones. There is no word yet on the price or a release date.
