Codemasters has extended its contract with the Formula One Group. The new agreement gives the developer the exclusive rights to release F1 games until 2025. Codemasters has had the rights since 2008.

With the new contract, the developer holds the rights to make official F1 games from 2021 to 2025. The studio also already has an option on the 2026 and 2027 seasons. Codemasters has been the only studio to release official F1 games since 2008, but according to the developer, the new agreement is the longest contract extension to date.

Codemasters released its first F1 game in 2009 and has released a new version every year since then. The games will be released for PC and consoles, and F1 2016 has also been released for Android and iOS. After that, there was no annual F1 game for smartphones, but last year F1 Mobile Racing appeared as a successor. That mobile game has been downloaded 12 million times, according to Codemasters.
