Warner Bros. is working on a Harry Potter mobile game. Harry Potter: Magic Awakened will be a card game with RPG elements and is expected to be released first in China. It is not yet known whether the game will also be released in other countries.

Harry Potter: Magic Awakened takes place a few years after the Second Wizarding War, when the player receives an acceptance letter for Hogwarts. In the game, players will explore the wizarding school, learn spells and “master the magic,” writes game analyst Daniel Ahmad. on Twitter. As the game progresses, players will gradually meet new companions and develop new strategies for timing and casting spells.

The game appears to contain material from both the original Harry Potter series and the Fantastic Beasts spin-offs, according to images Ahmad shares on Twitter. Based on the graphics, the game appears to have team-based elements and the Forbidden Forest appears to be explorable. The game has a kind of drawn art style with 3d graphics. The card game manifests itself in duels in which players compete against other wizards.

Chinese players can already register for the game via the game website from this week. The website features animated artwork from Diagon Alley and plays the classic Potter theme song in the background. The game will be released on iOS and Android, but when Chinese players can get started with the game is still unknown. It is not yet clear whether the game will be released outside of China. However, mobile games are more often first released in China, because mobile gaming is very popular in that country. For example, the mobile version of Player Unknown’s Battegrounds was released in China in February 2018. A month later, the game came out on the western market.

Magic Awakened won’t be the first Harry Potter mobile game. Earlier this year, developer Niantic released Wizards Unite, a Pokémon Go-style game set in the wizarding universe of Harry Potter. There have also been rumors for a long time about a Harry Potter RPG called Magic Awakened, but it was thought to be a full-fledged role-playing game for PC and consoles. The game would be made by Avalanche, the developers behind the Just Cause series and the 2015 Mad Max game. According to Daniel Ahmad this project is separate from the mobile game. Perhaps such a game from Avalanche is still in development, but under a different name.
