Current PlayStation 4 consoles are expected to work with the PS5’s DualShock 5 controller. This is evident from a now-deleted table on the official French PlayStation website. An overview lists compatibility with a ‘DS5’ controller.

A table on the French website stated that all current PlayStation models, including the original 2013 models, work with DualShock 5. This listing has since been removed. Under the guise of ‘DualShock compatibility’, a DS5 controller was also mentioned in addition to the current DS4. This is probably the controller for the PlayStation 5, since the model name of the controller is usually the same as the console generation. For example, the PS4 is paired with the DualShock 4, the PS3 received a DualShock 3 after release and the PlayStation 2 came with a DualShock 2. The original DualShock was a controller for the first PlayStation.

Sony has not officially unveiled the DualShock 5 yet. The company does state that the PS5 controller will receive haptic feedback, among other things. Also, the resistance of the triggers will adapt to games. For example, the resistance of a trigger can gradually increase when drawing an arc. The controller gets a larger battery compared to the DualShock 4 and has a USB-C connection with which the controller can be charged. The controller can also be used wired. There is also a chance that the DualShock 5 will also get two extra buttons on the back, but this has not yet been officially confirmed. Sony will release an accessory in February with two extra buttons for the DualShock 4.

The PlayStation 5 will be released around the holidays at the end of this year. The console will include a soc from AMD with Ryzen CPU and RDNA GPU, support for ray tracing and an SSD. The console has not yet been officially announced or shown, although pictures of PS5 devkits are already circulating on the internet. The price and exact release date have not yet been announced.
