Sony is bringing the industries in which it makes TVs, cameras and smartphones, among other things, into a separate holding company, the company said. Sony Electronics Corporation will start next week, according to the Japanese manufacturer.

Three branches will fall under the new holding, according to Sony. These are Imaging Products & Solutions, including cameras, Home Entertainment & Sound, including TVs and sound bars, and Mobile Communications, including smartphones. The camera sensors are not in the new holding, as are the PlayStation division and of course the movie making and music publishing divisions. All divisions included in the new holding company came under Electronic Products & Solutions.

Sony says it wants to achieve with this step that the organizational structure is optimized and that the divisions can therefore compete better and possibly tap new markets. What that means in practice is not yet clear.

The divisions that fall in the blue box (EP&S) will now transfer to the new holding company
