Philips Hue Bridge v1 will lose its internet functions due to upcoming EOL statusstatus
The Philips Hue Bridge v1 will lose its online functionality on May 1, 2020. The Bridge can then only be used when the user is on the same local network. The hardware is so old that Philips no longer accepts compatibility, quality, speed and security.
The downgrade of the Hue Bridge also means that Alexa and Assistant functionality will stop working. In addition, users must continue to use the Philips Hue Bridge V1 app, the V2 will not work with it. Philips assures users that the end for the Hue Bridge V2 is not yet in sight. All in all, Philips has supported the Hue Bridge v1 for about eight years.
It was already known that the end was in sight for version 1 of the Hue Bridge, but now also when and the fact that the device also loses certain functionalities at that time.
This first Philips Hue Bridge came on the market in 2012 and its successor, the Hue Bridge 2.0, followed in 2015. The biggest change compared to its predecessor was the addition of support for Apple HomeKit. This meant that the Bridge could be operated with Apple devices and that HomeKit-compatible devices could also connect to the system. However, newer Hue lamps also support Bluetooth, so the Bridge is no longer a requirement there.
