Samsung has announced a new line of external SSDs. The Portable SSD T3 series consists of models with storage capacities of 250GB, 500GB, 1TB and 2TB. The SSDs have a metal housing that is resistant to bumps and falls.

The Portable SSD T3 is the successor to the T1 series of external SSDs that appeared last year. New compared to that generation is that a 2TB model will be available. In addition, the interface now supports USB 3.1. In addition, the dimensions have been adjusted: they are now 74x58x10.5mm and the weight is 50 grams.

The SSD is therefore slightly thicker and heavier than the previous generation, but according to Samsung, the metal housing can withstand high pressure and a drop of up to 2 meters. In addition, the drives have Thermal Guard, technology that should prevent overheating.

The read and write speeds are still up to 450MB/s and the file system is exfat, just like the T1. Support for 256-bit AES encryption is provided for data security. Samsung will release the SSD in February in the US, China, South Korea and some European countries. The SSD will come to the Benelux from March. What the prices will be is still unknown.
