Vivo teaser for smartphone with ‘gimbal’ stabilization in camera
Vivo has posted a teaser for its X50 smartphone. This shows that the phone will have a camera with stabilization that should resemble that of a gimbal. Vivo previously presented a concept phone with that technology.
The announcement is scheduled for June 18, according to the video posted on Weibo. The video shows a phone being balanced by a gimbal, a clear hint at gimbal stabilization. The camera lens also looks much larger than on many other phones.
The text on the housing also gives away something of the camera specs. It has cameras from 16mm to 134mm in 35mm equivalent. It is obvious that it concerns a camera with an ultra-wide-angle lens and a camera with a telephoto lens; it appears to be a periscopic telephoto lens. The aperture ranges from f/1.6 to f/3.4. The latter is probably from the camera with telephoto lens.
Earlier this year, Vivo showed a concept phone with a 48-megapixel primary camera with gimbal stabilization. In addition, the camera with telephoto lens had movable lenses to enable further optical zoom, but it is unclear whether that will also be in the X50.
Vivo is a Chinese smartphone maker affiliated with brands like Oppo, Realme and OnePlus. It has been selling smartphones in the west for several years and became familiar with the Nex, at the time one of the first smartphones with thin screen edges and without a notch.
