Former Xbox CEO Mike Ybarra gets top job at Blizzard
Mike Ybarra joins Blizzard Entertainment. He will take on the role of executive vice president and general manager. Ybarra announced earlier this month that he was leaving Microsoft. He worked there for almost twenty years and was CEO of the Xbox division.
Ybarra will start working for Blizzard on November 4, he reports on Twitter. He does not provide substantive details about his new role, but he says he will already be present at BlizzCon. This year’s Blizzard conference will take place from November 1 to 3.
In early October, Ybarra announced that he was leaving Microsoft. He was corporate vice president of the Xbox division there. His career at Microsoft started in 2000, when he started working as a system engineer. He then worked his way up to several senior positions in the company.
Ybarra’s appointment to Blizzard comes after two co-founders left the company this year. Mike Morhaine announced his departure in April, having traded his job as director for a consultant role last year. In July Frank Pearce left, he retired.
