Firefox version 70 has been released. In this release, cross-site social media tracking cookies are blocked by default. The browser can also provide an overview of which trackers are blocked by Enhanced Tracking Protection.

Furthermore, in Firefox version 70, the Lockwise password manager is included by default and data entered in it is also secured with Firefox Monitor, which provides the same service as HaveIBeenPwned.com. Lockwise can also sync with mobile versions of Firefox and in the standalone Lockwise app.

Enhanced Tracking Protection, introduced in version 63, already blocked cross-site tracking, tracking content, cryptominers and fingerprinters. According to the browser maker, an estimated 450 billion tracking requests have been blocked since the feature was introduced in July.

In the new version, an icon in the address bar shows whether a website retrieves the user’s location and the https lock is no longer green, because this would unjustly give a too strong sense of security and privacy, explains Firefox engineer. Johann Hoffmann out. The http lock now has a red line through it.

On the technical side, Mozilla states that thanks to a faster Javascript baseline interpreter, pages load up to eight percent faster. With macOS, that is even up to 22 percent thanks to improvements in the compositor, which should also lead to up to 37 percent less resource use when playing videos.

Firefox 70 is available through the built-in updater and the download page. On macOS and Android, the update will be released in a phased manner, meaning that one user will get the update from their app store faster than another.
