Synology has also released an update for the very old NAS models that still run on Disk Station Manager version 3.1. This concerns the devices whose model number ends with a 7. In version 3.1 build 1639, various security problems have been fixed.

• Upgraded OpenSSL to Version 1.0.1n to fix multiple security issues (CVE-2014-3505, CVE-2014-3506, CVE-2014-3507, CVE-2014-3508, CVE-2014-3509, CVE-2014-3510, CVE -2014-3511, CVE-2014-3512, and CVE-2014-5139).
• Fixed a vulnerability that could allow servers to accept unauthorized access.

Read before Starting

• If you have not created a volume on your DiskStation yet, please create one before starting to update DSM (or use the “manual DSM update” option instead). The reason is that the previous versions of DSM included the following known issue: if you try to run automatic update of DSM without a volume, your DiskStation may not function afterwards.
