Information on Intel 540S SSDs with Tlc Nand memory appears online

Intel is likely to announce a new series of SSDs soon. The Intel 540S models can already be seen at a German price comparison site. These are ssds with 16nm tlc memory from SK Hynix, which come on the market in 2.5″ and m2 format with capacities from 120GB to 1TB.

Although Intel has not yet officially announced the 540S SSDs, the product names, specifications and prices can be seen at the German price comparator Geizhals. This shows that the Intel SSD 540S series consists of six models. There are versions of 120, 180, 240, 360 and 480GB and a model with capacity of 1TB.

The controller is the Silicon Motion SM2256, which can also be found in the Crucial BX200 SSDs. With the choice for 16nm tlc-nand memory from SK Hynix, the devices are the first tlc-ssds from Intel. The manufacturer also deviates from its usual memory supplier Micron. That is remarkable, because Intel works closely with Micron. Among other things, the two companies are developing 3D Xpoint technology together.

The SSDs are available in 2.5″ version with a 7mm thickness, or in m2 format with a length of 80mm. Both versions communicate over the SATA bus. The maximum read and write speeds are 560MB/s and 480MB/s according to Benchlife That site claims that Intel will announce the SSDs in mid-April, according to Geizhals, prices start at around 70 euros for the 120GB version to 370 euros for the 1TB model.
