Vivo announces Xplay 5 smartphone with 6GB RAM and curved screen

The Chinese manufacturer Vivo has announced the Xplay5, a device with a 5.43 “screen that bends around the edge, just like the Galaxy S Edge models. In addition, the device has 6GB of RAM.

Vivo announced the Xplay5 during an event in Beijing and has since put the product page online, although that page does not show the high-end version. It concerns a device with a metal housing and a 5.43 “screen with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. On Monday, the message appeared that the Xplay5 will be one of the first smartphones from a manufacturer other than Samsung to have an amoled screen with curved Vivo is offering the high-end Flagship Edition of the smartphone with 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and a Snapdragon 820-soc, as well as a cheaper version with 4GB and 128GB of storage.

The smartphone has a 16-megapixel camera on the back and an 8-megapixel version on the front. The camera sensor is Sony’s IMX298, which is also included in Xiaomi’s Mi 5, for example. Furthermore, the device has a USB type-c connection, an integrated fingerprint sensor on the back and a battery capacity of 3600mAh. The manufacturer indicates the audio quality in the high-end version with ‘hi-fi 3.0’. Present are two ES9028 dacs and three OPA1612 amplifiers. With the other Xplay5 there is a Cirrus Logic CS4398 dac and an AD45257 amplifier.

The high-end version of the Xplay 5 will cost 4288 Chinese yuan, converted 600 euros, and the cheaper version costs 3698 yuan, 519 euros. As far as is known, the devices do not come to the Benelux via the regular channels.
