Sony releases beta version of its own flash tool for Xperias
Sony has released a tool that allows Xperia smartphone users to flash software after unlocking their bootloader. The manufacturer thus meets users who run a custom ROM on their phone.
The new flash tool allows users to install official software released by Sony on their phone to install when their bootloader is unlocked. The tool ensures that a new ROM is installed on the phone, while the bootloader remains unlocked. Sony has made the flash software suitable for the Xperia S, Xperia Arc and Xperia Arc S, but hopes to support more devices in the future.
Normally, Sony’s software does not support devices where the operating system has been tampered with. The official tool to flash software no longer works, something that is the case with most smartphone manufacturers. Although smartphones with an unlocked bootloader and a custom ROM usually do not receive support, Sony seems to distinguish itself in this. Previously, the manufacturer also released a manual for the Xperia S for installing custom ROMs. Sony also releases test releases of software intended for developers.
