Intel’s 10nm Alder Lake CPUs will be released for PC and laptops in the second half of 2021

Intel confirms that its Alder Lake generation will be released in the second half of this year. These are processors made on an improved version of Intel’s 10nm process, with large and small cores. There will be both Alder Lake CPUs for desktops and laptops.

Intel is testing its Alder Lake processors at the end of its CES presentation. The manufacturer shows a working system in which such a new processor would be and gives some details. The Alder Lake generation is made on an improved version of the 10nm SuperFin process. That is the current process on which the Tiger Lake laptop processors are made.

In addition, the Alder Lake processors consist of a combination of economical and powerful cores. Such combinations have long been used in socs for smartphones and tablets. Intel claims that the Alder Lake processors are a major advance in the x86 architecture.

Intel gives few details about the Alder Lake processors, but a lot of information has already leaked out in recent months. For example, details about the corresponding lga1700 socket have already appeared on Intel’s own website. Rumor has it that the desktop processors will have a maximum of sixteen cores. This involves eight powerful cores and eight economical cores.

Because of their new build, the Alder Lake-S processors for desktops are a different size than the current Comet Lake and upcoming Rocket Lake CPUs and therefore also require new motherboards. Presumably, Intel will come up with chipsets in the 600 series for this.
