Stable version of Edge on Chromium appears in search engines

Microsoft has released a stable version of its Edge browser based on Chromium. The company has not yet officially announced the stable release, the version can be found via search engines. An official announcement may follow in the very near future.

A link to the release via Microsoft Edge’s stable channel on Chromium is now publicly available via a Google search, Techdows writes. The link, labeled ‘Microsoft Edge – Stable’, will immediately initiate a download of an installation file. This installer file is signed by Microsoft and actually installs a non-beta version of Edge. It concerns version ‘78.0.276.19’, which suggests that this version of Edge is based on Chrome 78, which should be released on October 22.

Mozilla will also release version 70 of its Firefox browser on October 22. So there may be three new versions of major browsers released this week. The stable version of Edge is not yet available on Edge’s insider website. There is also no official announcement from Microsoft for the time being.

When users install the stable version of Edge Chromium, the original version of Edge will be removed. This cannot be reversed by uninstalling the Chromium variant.

Microsoft announced last year that it would release a new version of its Edge browser based on Chromium. A beta version of the browser has been available since August, with Microsoft stating that it would be stable enough for everyday use.
