MSI builds compact Titan 700 PC
MSI has taken a good look at the Mac Mini and is now launching the small form factor Titan 700 desktop PC. However, the hardware used in the compact computer is less powerful than Apple’s gem.
The Titan 700, with dimensions of 185 x 240 x 70mm, is based on the mini-ATX format and features a motherboard based on the VIA CN700 chipset, including an onboard igp. MSI chose a 2GHz VIA C7 processor as the beating heart and 1GB of DDR2 memory. Data can be written to a 120GB 2.5″ SATA hard disk or via the slimline DVD burner.
At the back of the Titan 700 are connections for DVI, VGA, Gigabit Ethernet, USB and 5.1 audio. Remarkably enough, there is also a serial RS-232 port. The PC is powered by a separate 60W power supply. According to MSI, the noise development is limited to 35dBA under load and 20dBA in standby mode. In Great Britain, the system has a suggested retail price of 234.99 pounds, converted just under 300 euros. In addition, the buyer still has to install an OS of their choice, but the hardware will probably not be powerful enough to run Windows Vista smoothly.
