LG introduces soundbars with Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and ‘ai calibration’
LG announces four new soundbars. The most expensive models are equipped with a tuning technology that the manufacturer calls AI Room Calibration. Furthermore, most new soundbars have Dolby Atmos and DTS:X.
According to LG, AI Room Calibration uses machine learning to automatically adjust the sound to the dimensions and other characteristics of the room. The manufacturer does not provide a technical explanation of its operation.
The top model in the range is the SN11RG, a 7.1.4 system with wireless rear speakers. An optional SPK8 Wireless Rear Speaker Kit will be available for the stand-alone soundbars from LG’s new range, so that these devices can also be equipped with wireless rear speakers. LG collaborated with Meridian Audio in the development of the soundbars.
Most new soundbars from LG have Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. All models are equipped with 4k pass-through, the Google Assistant for voice control and earc or enhanced audio return channel. This part of the HDMI 2.1 standard significantly increases the bandwidth for audio, from a few Mbit/s to 38Mbit/s. This makes it possible to transmit high-resolution audio, such as Dolby True HD or DTS Master Audio, without loss of quality.
LG will announce further details about the soundbars and recommended prices at the introduction of the devices at the CES fair. The annual Consumer Electronics Show begins January 7 in Las Vegas.
