Tron: Evolution is no longer playable on Steam due to closed DRM servers

Steam users are complaining that they can no longer play Tron: Evolution. This would be because the SecuRom-drm no longer activates new installations. SecuRom states that the decision comes from Disney. The game is likely to be unplayable for the time being.

The issue came to light recently in a topic on the Steam forum, where users reported that their game licenses on Steam have expired. The issue was recently highlighted in a Reddit thread. Presumably, the game, which was released in 2010, will remain unplayable for the time being for users who do not currently have the game installed. SecuRom indicates that Disney no longer uses its DRM service, and calls on users to contact Disney.

Disney is said to have issued an official statement, which lists Steam user raidebaron. The company is said to have indicated that it is aware that the game’s activation site is no longer working. “Currently, the game can no longer be launched if it has not been previously installed,” Disney’s support department is said to have said. The publisher states that it is ‘looking at solutions’ to this problem. The company hopes to release a patch in due course, but does not know when this will happen.

It is more common for drm servers to be shut down after release, with similar consequences. In July, Microsoft stopped its e-book service, after which users could no longer read purchased digital books. Since 2015, it has been allowed in the US to bypass DRM after the servers have been taken offline. By the way, there are services like GOG that only sell DRM-free games. Tron: Evolution isn’t sold there, though.
