Codemasters Acquires Project CARS Developer Slightly Mad Studios
Codemasters acquires Slightly Mad Studios. That game company specializes in racing simulators. This extends the portfolio of the British game developer and publisher, among other things, with the Project CARS franchise.
Slightly Mad Studios is currently working on Project CARS 3 and the mobile game Project CARS Go. Through the acquisition, Codemasters also claims to own an unannounced game based on ‘a Hollywood blockbuster’, which according to some sources refers to a Fast & Furious film. The acquisition involves an amount of more than 27 million euros. About 5.4 million euros consists of Codemasters shares.
Slightly Mad Studios mainly gained fame with racing simulators. For example, the company also developed two Need for Speed titles on behalf of Electronic Arts. Codemasters also has quite a few racing games to its name, including the DiRT, GRID and Formula 1 series franchises.
Another project from Slightly Mad Studios is its own Mad Box game console that the company plans to release in a few years. That project has been in the making for some time now. What the future of the project looks like after the acquisition by Codemasters is not yet clear.
Frank Sagnier will continue to lead Codemasters Group and Ian Bell will retain his position as CEO of Slightly Mad Studios, the company he founded in 2009. Codemasters has approximately 700 employees worldwide.
