Optional Windows 10 update addresses issues with Advanced Threat Protection
Microsoft warns of a new Windows 10 update that could cause the Advanced Threat Protection Defender feature to stop working. Defender Antivirus will continue to work normally.
This is an optional update, not a mandatory one. KB4520062 was released on October 15, and was initially intended to fix an issue where the screen remained black after booting. The update did not fix any security vulnerabilities. Therefore, the Cumulative Update was not required.
Microsoft is now warning about that update. That could cause problems with Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection, or ATP, on Windows 10 1809 and Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019. This function is intended primarily for enterprise users to gain immediate insight into an attack in addition to protection. The feature is not the same as Windows Defender’s default antivirus. After installing KB4520062, in some cases Defender ATP may no longer work, and it may no longer send data. It can also happen that users get the error 0x0000409 with MsSense.exe.
Microsoft says there is no fix for the issue available for now. Users and administrators should not install the update, or uninstall it if they have already done so.
