Twitch gets DJ category for live streams

From this summer, Twitch will have a separate category for live streams from DJs. The Amazon streaming platform has announced this. Until now, that category did not exist, although DJs have been active on the platform for some time.

The category will be released in the coming months, says Twitch. Users can find live streams and communities around DJs there. To handle the rights, the platform has signed deals with larger and smaller record companies such as Universal and Warner Music Group. Under this collaboration, DJs can play music with a license if they pay a percentage. This should prevent rights claims. In many cases, Twitch and the DJs share the costs equally.

DJs were already active on the platform, but until now, according to Twitch, they had to deal with a lot of claims from copyright holders because they played unlicensed music. Twitch has created the DJ Program for DJs. That will also start this summer.
