A bug in Skype allows private messages to be sent to another contact inadvertently. According to the voip service, only a small group of people are affected by the bug and it will be fixed ‘within a few days’.

The error occurs when a call hangs. If Skype is then restarted, the last message may inadvertently be sent to someone else. Skype employee Leonas Sendrauskas reports on the company’s blog that the bug has been found and that a fix is on the way. “We urge all Skype users to download the latest client as soon as they are notified that it, including this fix, is available.”

It is not clear how many users are affected by the bug. “We cannot determine exactly how many people are affected by these issues, but we believe they are a small number because the issues occur in very specific situations,” Sendrauskas said. According to Skype, the issues can occur with the following versions: Skype 5.9 and 5.10 for Windows, 5.8 for Mac, 4.0 for Linux, 1.2 for Windows Phone, 2.8 for Android and 4.0 for iOS. Update 15:28: An update is now available. This should solve the problems.
