Microsoft releases native OneDrive app for Macs with Apple M1 soc

Microsoft has released a native version of OneDrive for Macs with Apple M1 soc. The company released a preview version of it at the end of last year. M1 support is added to version 22,022 of OneDrive for macOS.

Microsoft writes in a blog post that the native OneDrive Sync app is now generally available to all users. With that, users no longer have to emulate the x86 version of OneDrive via Rosetta 2. The native, according to Microsoft, “makes full use of the performance improvements of Apple Silicon chips.” The M1 version of the app also offers the same functions as before.

The tech company is also making a Folder Backup app available in preview for macOS 12.1 Monterey. This allows users to automatically sync the Documents and Desktop folders to OneDrive. The app doesn’t support other folders yet, though Microsoft is considering it. Users can try out the Folder Backup app by enrolling in the ‘Insiders’ program through OneDrive’s settings.
