Trump’s Mastodon-based Social Network App Comes Out for iOS
Former President Donald Trump’s social network app has been released in the App Store. Truth Social’s interface is very reminiscent of Twitter’s. The code is based on Mastodon.
Users can post Truths on the network, which other users can distribute through a ReTruth. The central place in the interface is a feed of posts, as shown by screenshots of the interface in the App Store. Truth Social wants to distinguish itself by being a ‘social network free from political discrimination’.
The code is based on Mastodon, a long-running project for an open source social media platform. That Truth Social has used the code is apparent on the open source page of the new social network. There you can find a zip with the source code of Mastodon.
Truth Social is an initiative of a company of former President Donald Trump. The major social media companies deleted his accounts last year after the January 6, 2021 uprising. That uprising aimed to prevent the election victory of Trump opponent Joe Biden from being ratified. It is still unknown if and when an Android version of Truth Social will be released.
