Infinity Ward Confirms Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone Sequels
Infinity Ward has officially confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone sequels are in development. The Modern Warfare sequel is due out in the fall of 2022; Warzone 2 will be released sometime after that. The developer also criticizes the state of the current Warzone.
An entirely new engine has been worked on for years for the upcoming games, which will probably be called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. Initially, the news came out after a conversation with media and content creators, attended by Charlie Intel, among others. Activision then released the information itself in a concise blog post.
The American studio states that the upcoming battle royale game will change several aspects of the formula. YouTuber JackFrags, who was also present during the Q&A, mentions weapon building, new modes and revamped perks. He also states that Infinity Ward has other plans in terms of releasing new content for Warzone 2; the changes the game goes through during its life cycle include “not just the addition of new weapons and Operators.”
In the same conversation, Infinity Ward is critical of Call of Duty: Warzone; the game would be “embarrassing” in its current state. The company’s top executives admit during the conversation that they “blew it.” The developer wouldn’t be happy with how the game has changed since its release and how the battle royale feels right now.
This year, some of Call of Duty: Warzone’s current issues need to be addressed. Controversial aspects of the game such as climbing over objects, the way parachutes work and the intensity and behavior of the aim assist on consoles should be improved with upcoming updates.
