Microsoft says Teams has become 50 percent more efficient
According to Microsoft, video calling platform Teams is now fifty percent more efficient than a year ago. The company says it has put a lot of focus on this in recent months, so that the app has become at least half the speed in heavy use cases.
Microsoft says it has cut Teams usage by up to 50 percent in extreme cases. This is, for example, if users set up a video call with ten people where everyone has his or her camera on. The company says it has mainly paid attention to camera optimizations. Also, the code that takes care of exposure and white balance has been optimized.
Another important step to make the app more efficient, according to Microsoft, is that images are rendered differently. Initially, all video streams were rendered separately from each other. Later, the app was therefore improved and a grid of three by three video streams is rendered as one video image.
