Startup hits Kickstarter target for 32:9 portable display with 4k resolution
The start-up Lukos has raised 158,000 euros with a Kickstarter campaign for a 4k screen with an aspect ratio of 32:9. The foldable and portable screen is intended for gaming or as a second screen for video editing or designing.
Lukos plans to deliver the screen to Kickstarter backers in April 2022. The 14″ screen has a resolution of 3840×1100 pixels. The monitor features an IPS panel with a brightness of 300cd/m², a refresh rate of 60Hz and a response time of 2ms. In addition, the screen has three DisplayPort connections, two HDMI 2.0B ports, a USB-C port and an HDMI 1.4 port, all of which are located at the top of the screen, allowing four devices to be connected simultaneously in split screen, says Lukos.
The screen is equipped with a hinged carbon fiber port, which doubles as a protective cover. The screen can thus be closed and taken along. Lukos markets the screen as a monitor for gaming, for example with the Nintendo Switch, but also sees it as a useful second screen for graphic designers and video editors. The screen can also be rotated and used in a 9:32 aspect ratio.
The Kickstarter campaign, which started in January, is well above the $120,000 stretch goal the company had in mind. Kickstarter users who support the project are in fact pre-ordering the screen at a discount. The original goal of the Kickstarter campaign was therefore only 1773 euros. The final price of the screen will be around 681 euros, including VAT. So far, 366 people have supported the Kickstarter campaign.
Lukos doesn’t need the Kickstarter campaign to develop the screen; that has already happened. From August to November last year, the company extensively tested and adjusted the screen. The campaign is intended for mass production. The company wants to start with this in March, and then deliver the screen to backers in April.
