The colorful iMac 2021 wallpaper on your own Mac
The new iMacs have been available for a little over a month now and come with colorful wallpapers that match the new design perfectly. But this iMac 2021 wallpaper is not exclusive to the owners of the new iMac!
iMac 2021 wallpaper in macOS Big Sur
As of macOS Big Sur 11.3, the new iMac wallpaper is hidden in the Mac’s system files. You can easily access it in the following way:
- Open System Preferences on your Mac.
- Open the Desktop & Screen Saver panel.
- Double click on the ‘Desktop’ folder in the list on the left.
- A new Finder window will now open with the ‘Desktop Pictures’ folder selected. Double click on the folder to open it.
This folder contains the iMac 2021 wallpapers, all named ‘hello’ with the respective color behind them. If you right click on your favorite and then click on ‘Set desktop picture’ the wallpaper is set!
These iMac 2021 wallpapers even change between the light and dark display of macOS, just like they do on the new iMac.
Make it easy to access
You can also add the iMac 2021 wallpapers to System Preferences to make switching between them easier in the future. This is how you do this:
- Follow the steps above.
- Select all iMac wallpapers. You can recognize them by the ‘hello’ in the file name.
- Click on ‘Edit’ in the menu bar at the top of your screen and then on ‘Copy 7 parts’.
- Create a new folder somewhere on your Mac to put the wallpapers in.
- Open this folder.
- Click on ‘Edit’ again in the menu bar at the top of your screen and then on ‘Paste 7 parts’.
- Open System Preferences.
- Open the Desktop & Screen Saver panel.
- Click on the + button at the bottom left.
- Navigate to where you created the new wallpapers folder.
- Select the folder and then press ‘Choose’ at the bottom right.
Now the iMac 2021 wallpapers will remain at ‘Desktop & Screen Saver’, and you can easily choose a different color by clicking on one!
