SiFive stops production of HiFive Unmatched-RISC-V PC, focuses on new models
SiFive has announced that it is stopping production of its HiFive Unmatched development board with RISC-V soc. The company does this because of the persistent chip shortages. The manufacturer will focus on the next generation of HiFive systems.
SiFive is making the production halt known in a forum post, tech website Hackster.io noted. SiFive states that demand for the Unmatched system has “exceeded its high expectations.” The company is now almost out of its production stock of the HiFive Unmatched, writes SiFive employee Phil Dworsky.
“Given the supply chain issues that we overcame with the first delivery, but which are still affecting us, we have decided to focus on the next generation of SiFive HiFive systems rather than attempting a new build in 2022 of put together the HiFive Unmatched platform.” The manufacturer does not yet share any details about its next generation HiFive systems, but reports that more news will follow shortly.
SiFive announced the HiFive Unmatched in 2020 and began deliveries in May last year. It is a mini-ITX development board with a Freedom U740 soc with four SiFive U74 cores and a SiFive S7 core based on the RISC-V instruction set architecture. The system also features 16GB DDR4 memory, a PCIe 3.0 and two M.2 slots, in addition to USB connectors and an RJ45 connection for Gigabit Ethernet. The HiFive Unmatched had a suggested retail price of $665.
