Nvidia has made Android TV 11 available for the Shield TV set-top boxes via an update. At the end of last year, a beta version of this OS for the media players appeared. The update will be available as Shield Experience 9.0.0.

The new Android TV 11 update became available on Wednesday, January 12, Nvidia writes. The update adds, among other things, new privacy features and a revamped Gboard keyboard with built-in text-to-speech functions, in addition to support for the aptX audio codec and the Android security update, the company reports. Bluetooth devices can also be automatically disconnected when the Shield TV is put into sleep mode. The company is also talking about games at 4k resolution with HDR through a GeForce Now RTX 3080 subscription.

In addition, the update adds the various functions from Android TV 10. Nvidia announced in 2020 that the company would not release Android 10 for the Shield TV media players. The company did this because, according to Nvidia, Android TV 10 would have “little impact” on the user experience. The new Shield Experience 9.0.0 update with Android TV 11 will be available for all Shield TV devices, including the original 2015 models.
