Microsoft’s Mixer game service allows up to four players to stream images simultaneously
Microsoft has renamed its game streaming service Beam to Mixer. In addition, it presented some new features, including streaming game images with multiple people simultaneously via a split screen view.
The split screen mode should allow streaming games to be a collaborative experience, writes Microsoft. The software company puts a lot of emphasis on streaming through Mixer in real time and claims that many competing services have a delay on the stream.
There are also new apps for iOS and Android for the streaming service. This allows users to follow streams on mobile devices. At a later stage, gamers should also be able to livestream images from a mobile device. There will also be a page for Mixer in the Xbox One dashboard, which contains popular streams.
Microsoft presented Mixer as Beam some time ago. The name Beam came from an acquisition of another company last year. However, building a global service with that name proved impossible, claims Microsoft. Why that is, leaves the company open.
