Samsung announces 8k and 4k TVs in Qled series for 2019
Samsung has announced its Qled line of televisions for 2019 at an event in Portugal. The company comes with more than twenty models, including the Q950R with 8k resolution.
The Qled Q950R series will be available in screen sizes from 65 to 98 inches, where last year’s 8k models had a maximum screen size of 85 inches. The 8k TVs have HDMI 2.1 with which 8k images at 60Hz can be received. The new Qled line-up also consists of 4k TVs in the Q90R, Q85R, Q80R, Q70R and Q60R lines. The have screen sizes from 43 to 82 inches, where last year’s came out at a maximum of 75 inches.
Samsung therefore emphasizes its focus on size, citing research by IHS Markit, which would show that 2.1 million TVs of 75 inches and larger were sold in 2018, which is expected to grow to 3 million this year and against 2022 to 5.8 million.
All Qled TVs have a ‘quantum processor’ from Samsung, for upscaling, among other things, and that they support hdr10+. Samsung also reports that the ‘2019 Qled TVs’ are equipped with ‘Direct-Full Array’, or full array local dimming, but that is not the case with the Q60R line.
As announced during CES, the manufacturer will equip its TVs this year with iTunes and AirPlay 2 from Apple and Samsung’s voice assistant Bixby and the Assistant from Google. Samsung also announces that the design models The Frame and The Serif will also fall under the Qled line this year. The company will release those TVs in April.
